Can Andrographis paniculata treat the Wuhan Covid-19 virus?

The Wuhan virus (coronavirus 2019) belongs to the same group of viruses that cause the common cold and SARS.
Human studies have shown that Andrographis paniculata can alleviate cough and sore throat symptoms in acute respiratory infections, as well as reduce the severity of the illness. Furthermore, Andrographis paniculata combined with Siberian ginseng can prevent the common cold by 33%.

Regarding its antiviral properties, Andrographis paniculata has been found to inhibit Avian influenza A (H9N2 and H5N1) in vitro and Influenza A virus in animal studies, primarily due to its active compound, Andrographolides. However, no research specifically targeting the coronavirus has been found.

Based on the above information, there is no evidence to support the use of Andrographis paniculata in treating coronavirus infections or SARS. Only mild symptoms such as fever, cough, and sore throat have been observed. Therefore, Andrographis paniculata can be used to alleviate cough and sore throat in those with early symptoms. If symptoms do not improve or worsen after continuous use for 10 days, the medication should be stopped immediately and a Western medicine practitioner consulted.
